Catch of the Day & the
Jewels of East Yorkshire
20th- 24th July 2023

The lush undulating farmland of East Yorkshire meets the sea at its capital, Hull, the 2017 City of Culture. On this tour we explore an oft forgotten part of the country.

We will start with a visit to the Victorian resort of Cleethorpes, and the Cleethorpes Light Coastal Railway for a 45 minute return journey on this historic miniature railway with a chance to visit the smallest pub on the planet. After lunch we travel to nearby Grimsby and step back in time to experience the height of the fishing industry in the 1950’s at the Fishing Heritage Centre with a tour of the Tiger Rose, the oldest side-winder trawler in the UK.

Our second day out will start with a visit to Hornsea, a quintessential British seaside resort, once famed for its pottery production, before we then travel to Beverley. Home to a towering 13th Century gothic minster, pretty market squares, beautiful Georgian townhouses, it was recently voted as one of the top places in the country to live. After lunch we pay a visit to Burton Agnes, a fifteen generation family home, filled with treasures collected over the centuries. The extensive gardens include walled areas with intricate planting, sweeping lawns, a woodland walk and boasts over 3,000 plant species, including the National Collection of Campanulas. The courtyard plays host to art galleries and craft shops featuring local artisans.

You will also have a free day to explore the city.
